Sandblasting is a process wherein a stream of sand is driven by a jet of compressed air or by water against a surface. This creates a powerful abrasive action that can clean and abrade any surface put under the jet of these abrasive particles. Abundant materials such as powdered quartz, emery, and iron globules are usually used as the abrasive materials in sandblast. Sandblast is widely used for cleaning casting iron at foundries. Sandblast is also used for preparing different surfaces for painting, enameling and during galvanizing. Sandblast can also be used in cleaning stubborn grime that has accumulated in the stonework of most buildings. Sandblast can also be used to create frosted designs on glass by placing a suitable stencil or pattern over a plate of glass and applied with a little sandblast. The jet of abrasive particles of the sandblast will strike the uncovered portions of the plate glass and create that frosted effect.

Wrought Iron

Furniture, Doors and Fencing

Wrought iron doors and furniture are one of the most classically beautiful doors and furniture out there. These are generally very old and filled with history and lore. If you look closely at these you might even be able to get a sense of what they have lived through in their long years. Did they hold people in or did they work to keep people out?

The main complaint that people have about wrought iron doors and furniture is the fact that they can get rusty. Most people choose to pain the doors in order to have them match their own home better. There is nothing wrong with this method of decorating but there are some things that you need to do before you pull out the good old paint and paint brush.

For example: if there is any rust on the door then you need to get it off. Most people choose to have their wrought iron doors sandblasted. This is the fastest and the easiest way for you to deal with the rust in question. You cannot paint over rust r it will just keep rusting. When metal rusts it causes small amounts of gasses and these will cause the paint to bubble and peel. And not only that the paint is not going to sit flush and nice either. The door is going to look terrible until the rust has been removed.

Auto Restoration

Frames,Trailers, Structural Steel and Steel Wheels

It’s a fact when you restore a car, you will deal with some rust. Rust is one of those things that can be very annoying if you don’t know how to deal with it.  We can remove rust from the frame of most vehicles and from a lot of different parts.  Sandblasting is fine for removing paint from heavy metal parts and is irreplaceable for stripping frames and running gear, but it should never ever be used to remove paint from body panels, and although it can be used in a limited fashion on rusted areas of rockers and fender and quarter bottoms where metal replacement is required, you should never blast a large part like a hood or trunk or any large flat expanse. Sandblasting builds up a lot of heat in a very small area that leads to the metal expanding which then causes warping. There is a newer process called soda blasting which build up heat and cause warping.

Hey. I’m into building and collecting vintage bmx bikes from the 70s and 80s. I do body and paint for a living. Restoring bikes is pretty simple to me since I do auto restorations as well. What I have found the most difficult is stripping the original finish due to some tight spaces hard to get stripping wheels and sand paper into. Was wondering what you would charge to sand blast a bmx frame and fork to bare metal. If your price is reasonable I will be a consistent customer as I not only do bikes to collect but also flip some and do restorations on them for others. Please respond and if you need it I can send a few reference pics if that will help with a quote. Thanks, Ronny

  18. Renee Colwell Says:

Hello – I have two 18″x80″ wood louvered doors that have 2 coats of paint and 1 coat of “sticky” gel stain. Can the majority of these be removed via sand blasting? The crevices of the louvers is impossible to hand-sand, but they are nice sturdy doors from the 1950s and I hate to just replace them with the thinner ones sold today. What is your turnaround time if you do this kind of work? Thank you.
